"Melior est enim sapientia cunctis pretiossisimis." Proverbs 8:11

In Latin, we learn the valuable words, "Wisdom is indeed better...than all the most precious things put together." So what is wisdom? Some call it a natural part of learning. Some say it is eternal. Yet, hopefully all would agree that to understand the principles of things, to get a bigger picture of learning and of life is something that cannot be valued enough.

A+ Tutoring/Test Preparation has been established for two types of students, whether they be young or old. First, for the student who has "fallen behind." Whether it be because of learning disabilities, language barriers, or even laziness, some students find they need to play "catch up." Our programs provide for the needs of students who have fallen behind. Other students are quite gifted, but need someone to show them how to gain the competitive edge that will put them ahead. They may not be good test-takers, may have fallen behind in a certain skill that they never mastered, or, yes, may be hampered by laziness or lack of motivation. Our programs provide for the needs of gifted students who want to make their mark. Though one may argue that there is a third type of student, test anxiety affects both advanced students and those who need work on remedial skills. A+ Tutoring offers help in overcoming test anxiety and maximizing natural potential.  It may seem strange that similar techniques often can solve different problems, but this can only be done with a guide who can show the way...

Make no mistake, for very few students is taking a test like the PSAT, SAT, or ACT a walk in the park.  Added to the apparent difficulty of the tests are the obstacles life can put in the way:  sickness, lack of motivation, changing schools, social pressures, and fear.  But with a systemized, customized plan after a proper diagnostic test, the end can be much more reachable than initally thought.  This website was designed to give you initial tools to study well for tests like the ACT and SAT.  Feel free to visit our links

to help you understand that test preparation, or even studying in general, is about a process and a system to get to the right answer.  Whether it be study habits, critical thinking skills, reading comprehension, math review, programs to treat test anxiety, or even speed reading, we believe we have answers that make and have made a great difference in our prep sessions for test score outcomes. Please take a look around and give us a ring if you have any questions.

ACT Announces Test Changes in 2015 to match Collegeboard

The ACT corporation has announced changes to its test to happen in 2015, which many believe to be a retort to the recent drastic changes announced by Collegeboard to the PSAT and ACT.  The College Board Corporation has declined comment as to the significance of these changes, though test preppers need to keep their eyes wide open.

                                               How are We Different?

The A+ Stepwise Method
Provides the Map to Get to
the Final Answer

So many times it is easy for a student to say, "Where do I start?". Having the math, reading, English, and science steps at one's finger tips have solved that problem, with proven results. A student who can learn to work in a system has the best chance to make the right move consistently. Even logic problems are more easily understood when the pieces are laid out in a logical order and examined one at a time.

Plans Customized According to Strengths and Weaknesses

While many companies offer "certified teachers" or "degreed professionals" to work with their students, we at A+ not only do we work only with tutors who have a  high degree of skill, but we also have them customize a plan to focus on only what the student needs. The time of our students is precious, whether it be 4 or 5 hours to work through calculus assigments or 40 or 50 hours to complete several tests like the PSAT, ACT, and SAT. We include a short diagnostic test as part of our first session to know the road ahead.

Proven Tutors Make
All the Difference on
Tests Like the SAT and ACT

There is nothing like learning from a professional to know how to master a skill. Our proven tutors, having been veterans of success on the SAT, ACT, GRE, and GMAT can help bring students up to their level by modeling the skills that are needed to succeed. With the high level of skill needed to guide students to their goals, strengthen weaknesses and capitalize on strengths, our tutors all use the system that has led many students to the 99th percentile on difficult tests.

Anxiety Management is Often the Missing Piece

In the final equation, cool heads prevail.  While many students long for the seemingly icy temperament of a logician or mathematician to carefully disect whatever problems plague them, with the Heartmath technique, students have been proven to score 23% higher in verbal questions and 32% higher in math questions. Stress management can be vital on test day, and our tutors, being trained to recognize test anxiety, can help students get into the "zone", so they can perform better than normally possible.

Testimonials

Michael knows the material inside and out, and showed me how to focus on areas where I needed the most help.

[Grant was able to achieve a score in the top 1% of the ACT after scoring in the top 5% of the SAT with Mr DiSalvo's assistance.]

I  cannot give enough praise to Michael DiSalvo, my daughter's tutor for the ACT and SAT tests. His methods are very effective. Without Mr. DiSalvo, my daughter's PSAT scores predicted she would score approximately 1930 over the three sections of the SAT test. She scored more than 200 POINTS HIGHER than that, with a 2150! (700 - M, 720 - V, 730 - W). Her ACT score was even more impressive - a 33 composite, which put her in the 99 percentile - the top 1% of test takers! We are thrilled with the scores!

[This client's other daughter was also helped into the 99th percentile by Mr DiSalvo].

Michael's one-on- one sessions tremendously helped my daughter's  math and verbal skills. She was able to receive in-depth help from the moment she and Michael started. Claire worked with Michael before her first ACT test and she scored a 31!

My daughter had serious testing anxiety and didn’t score well in the SAT/ACT comparable to her capability. After working with Michael (who uses a very patient and engaging style) and his A+ tutoring techniques, she not only overcame the testing anxiety on these tests but also starting doing even better on everyday tests in highschool!  As a result she increased her ACT score significantly (+5 points!).
